PROJECT MANAGER

Reports to the Director of New Projects and Products. The person in this high visibility position will be driving multiple parallel high profile revenue generating software projects. Individual will need demonstrable extensive project management experience and a recent technical background.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Ability to respond to revised product specifications and compressed delivery schedules.
  • Able/willing to work with agile/traditional software development methods.
  • Interface with management, customer's representatives and all stakeholders to ensure expectations are met.
  • Develop, update and analyze project schedules.
  • Identity cross-project dependencies and risks.
  • Track project financials.
  • Plan for predictable hurdles and responsibly handle unpredictable hurdles.
  • Conduct regular project health assessments. Manage project risks and issues.
  • Track reported defects and assure assignment to appropriate owners.
  • Prepare project deliverables for product release.
  • Streamline client communication protocol (including operations).

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Five+ years of successful software Project or Program Management experience.
  • Eight+ years experience working on projects/programs in positions of increasing responsibility.
  • Technical understanding to work with different technical groups. Recent first hand software development/QA experience with enterprise applications in Java a plus.
  • Intimate knowledge of and participated in most, if not all, of the software development life cycle.
  • Strong skills in estimating techniques, scheduling, risk & change management, and negotiation.
  • Position requires excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to provide risk management & dependency analysis. Possess superior analytical & problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated, pro-active, passionate and productive under pressure.
  • Ability to establish solid working relationships with technical and business team members on both side of the customer relationship. Previous relationship management experience a plus.
  • Follow up and attention to detail is required.

REQUIRED EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (preferably in computer science or related background).

DESIRED TRAINING:

  • PMP certification or equivalent

Senior Java Developer

Parity Computing is a text mining company that has developed unique technology to extract latent relationships from unstructured data and is looking for hands-on, creative and detail-oriented people who can further the development of Parity's systems. We are a 10 year old self-funded and profitable company, positioned successfully in the hottest market segment in the industry (the Information Access market as defined by Gartner). We are looking for talented senior level Java software developers with experience translating technologies into innovative products.

Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Design and write high quality and scalable software
  • Contribute to key architectural decisions
  • Gather, implement, and test critical system requirements
  • Write your own unit tests
  • Review documentation and code created by the development team
  • Facilitate and contribute to QA test plans. Help with testing as the need arises.
  • Contribute to system design/deployment and performance optimization
  • Drive best practices coding standards and configuration management
  • Assign responsibility for tasks to team members

 

Required skills/education:

  • Java, Object Oriented Design, design patterns
  • Distributed and multi-threaded applications
  • XML/XSL, SQL/Oracle, Regular Expressions, UI experience (JSP, JavaScript, Rails)
  • Large-scale enterprise application development experience
  • 7+ years in software development with several full product lifecycle experiences
  • Knowledge of Windows and UNIX/Linux from a development perspective
  • Outstanding communication and teamwork skills
  • Strong problem solving, critical thinking, and algorithm skills
  • BS or higher in Computer Science

  • Information Retrieval (IR), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and/or Linguistics

Classifier

Part time consulting position for grad students

Parity Computing builds comprehensive science and engineering digital libraries combining full-text content with rich metadata and sophisticated research tools. We are currently working on a project with the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) to expand their Guide to Computing Literature. The goal is to develop a comprehensive resource including journals, conferences, and books from many different publishers. As a part of this, Parity is organizing new computing literature into the ACM classification (http://www.acm.org/class/). In an effort to improve the classifications and make them more relevant to computing researchers, Parity is seeking grad students (2nd year+) from Computer Science, CSE, ECE, and Math who have at least started reading the research literature in a particular field. We are looking to cover all areas of computing: theory, software, hardware, systems, networking, etc. The work will involve reading through articles in your field, and assigning/validating their classifications in the ACM scheme. We will make the work straightforward, so that you can work anytime, anywhere. Hourly rates are competitive. We would like candidates to commit to a minimum of about 5 to 10 hrs of their time per week. Students can choose to work full time in the summer if they are able. Java Developers

We are looking for both mid-level and senior Java developers with hands-on experience with full life-cycle Java projects. You would become part of our core development team tasked with productizing innovative technology.

Responsibilities include: requirements analysis, design, development, performance analysis and tuning, testing, support and maintenance for full life cycle Java projects.

Experience with the following areas are desirable but not required:

  • XML/XSL
  • SQL/Oracle
  • Regular Expressions, parsing
  • Perl scripting language
